Introducing Kal Barawi: The 2020 DTA Foundation / Midmark Corporation Scholarship Recipient

University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry’s Kal Barawi was awarded a 2020 scholarship of $5,000 as last year’s DTA Foundation / Midmark Corporation Scholarship Recipient.

In 2020, the DTA Foundation awarded 10 $5,000 level scholarships to winning applicants. Kal Barawi, a dental student at University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, was one of those 10 very deserving scholarship recipients. Dentistry was not Kal’s first choice. However, after shadowing his dentist for the summer, he was captivated by the fast paced environment and felt that, “Having the patient walk in with symptoms and walk out symptom-free was astonishing”.

He mentnioned in his application, “Throughout dental school, I have been consistently engrossed by community service. The immense need for dental care and education in Detroit was a factor that drew me into selecting this University of Detroit Mercy.” Read below his thanks to Midmark Corporation for the scholarship.

I think we need more people who are willing to give time to uplift our society using our resources. Receiving this scholarship is the positive reinforcement I need to keep me going on my mission.

I’ve also realized that one day if I can’t do the service myself, I would love to support the philanthropic efforts of organizations like the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation and Midmark Dental.
