Tele-Oral Medicine Pilot Project (TOMPP): A 2021 DTA Foundation Grant Project
The DTA Foundation continued its usual funding of oral health pilot projects in 2021 after its 2020 pivot to COVID related projects. University of Washington School of Dentistry was one of five grant recipients from last year’s funding cycle. See below pieces of their 2021 DTA Foundation grant application for more details on their project: Tele-Oral Medicine Pilot Project (TOMPP).
This project intends to begin by piloting a single tele-oral medicine connection between one Community Health Center of Snohomish County community health clinic and the UWSOD Oral Medicine department. Once this connection is made and 150 tele-oral medicine visits have occurred, lessons learned will be applied to other community health clinics around the area to grow the network.
By positioning access to oral medicine in community health clinics, other health care providers at those clinics will be exposed to the benefits of better diagnosis and treatment of orofacial conditions, improvements in orofacial pain, symptoms and associated improvements in oral functioning and overall health.
