Introducing LaShonda Shepherd: The 2020 DTA Foundation / Midway Dental Scholarship Recipient

University of Maryland School of Dentistry’s LaShonda Shepherd was awarded a 2020 scholarship of $10,000 as last year’s DTA Foundation / Midway Dental Scholarship Recipient.

In 2020, the DTA Foundation awarded three new $10,000 level scholarships to top applicants. LaShonda Shepherd, a dental student at The University of Maryland School of Dentistry was one of those three very deserving recipients of this new level of scholarship. LaShonda Shepherd wanted to be a dentist since the young age of 13. In her application, she noted “the unique relationships I’ve witnessed develop between caring dentists and the communities they serve fuel my passion for the profession.” Read below her thanks to Midway Dental for the scholarship.

As a fourth-year dental student, I now have the privilege of clinically treating patients. Each day, I witness the positive influence that dentists have on the members of our communities, and I am convinced that there is truly not a more rewarding profession. With the aid of this scholarship, I am able to focus on my goal of providing service and outreach to vulnerable populations without the weight of additional debt. For that, I am deeply grateful.
